I was 17 years old on my way to Safeway with my mom back in the late 70’s when the UFW picketers approached me and started telling me why they were picketing. They convinced me on the spot so I picked up a sign and started marching with them even though my mom crossed the picket line and did her shopping. What a great learning experience that was. I travelled around Los Angeles boycotting markets all summer long and was invited to a humble dinner of frijoles and rice with Cesar Chavez during one of his visits. I remember how quiet and dignified he was. I’ll never forget that moment. That sparked a life long desire to serve others and to speak for those with no voice. Que viva Cesar Chavez!!
