My story is simple & short compared to most stories you hear about at the UFW. Cesar Chavez was supposed to be the keynote speaker for the Pax Christi Natonal Assembly in New Orleans in 1988. At the time, he was on a hunger strike to raise awareness about boycotting grapes. Therefore, he did not attend the National Assembly. There were t-shirts with boycot grapes on the front of them for sale at the National Assembly. I bought one and wore it when I could outside of work (during that time, I worked for the federal government and could not play a more active role) but I did boycott grapes for several years. About a year after the National Assembly, Cesar Chavez came to speak at Loyola University in New Olreans. I was able to attend his speech and got to talk with him for several minutes after he finished talking. What a blessing it was to be able to talk with him! He was so down to earth in my encounter with him. Pete Yuslum
